Things could only get better for Goring, and following the unspectacular start, vast improvements were quickly evident. By 1901 a full fixture card had been arranged which included teams we still play today, notably Whitchurch and Stoke Row. A mixture of results show that honours were frequently shared between GCC and the Opposition, and by 1908 a Second XI Fixture card was arranged to accommodate the growing number of ‘enthusiastic cricketers in Goring, which included fixtures against Checkendon and Woodcote.
130 years or so later, and GCC are still going strong. We currently have two Saturday League Sides competing in the FNG-Berkshire Cricket League, a Sunday XI playing friendlies against some long established opposition (some of which date back to the late 1800’s and early 1900’s), a thriving and successful junior Academy, regular midweek fixtures against visiting Touring sides, and the long established North Devon Tour (now somewhere in it’s forties). Continuing development of the Squads, Ground and Facilities contribute to maintaining a rich tradition set down by the founders of GCC

GCC’s first recorded match was played on 5th June (Whit Monday) in 1876 against Wallingford. It wasn’t a particularly inspiring start, losing by an innings and 28 runs with three players recording a golden pair, and a Goring top score of 9 over the two innings. Home games were originally played at Long Meadow and Pearce’s Field, both at the end of Manor Road, unitl the Gardiner became available in 1888, and it has been the Home of GCC ever since.
